I learnt yet another very valuable camera lesson on Tuesday. That lesson was ‘always make sure your camera is charged’. Oh well, at least I got to use my phone camera’s funky external fish eye lens!

image

I found yet another Park I didn’t know existed this week.

image

I’m not sure what this one is called, but it has some very very pretty spots.

For example this spot here:

This was the only picture I got on my camera before it died and I switched to mobile. 😦

Beret : thrifted, shirt : lady Petrova, belt : shop 55, Skirt : home made, socks: Alannah Hill, shoes: kmart.

Everything about this tiny part of the park was absolutely perfect in a forest fairy type of way.

Fish eye fun times

As I mentioned earlier in the post, I snapped a few shots using my external fish eye lens. About 5 years ago I bought some teeny tiny little phone lenses to make taking photos on my ipod tough easier. I have a wide angle, a macro, a telephoto and the fish eye. Unfortunately I don’t get to play much with them any more, but it’s still very fun when I do get a chance to use them.

Let’s have a real talk about the weather…

I am so sick of the weather at the moment. Basically I had this awesome outfit planned out because the weather was yucky and cold the night before. When I woke up in was super hot, so I decided to wear something less warm. This was a bad choice.

image

Guess what temperature it was at uni.

image

It was a very cold temperature. Despite my smiling face, I was not a happy chappy.

image

The moral of this story is, don’t change your mind about pre planned outfits, because you might end up cold and miserable.

Lady Petrova’s webstore is a dangerous place for my wallet.

Basically there was this dress which I loved. Then it went on sale. Then it got marked down further, and the once more. Every time it was marked down it was so much harder for me not to buy.

I may have caved this week….

…and this might be the dress in question.

wpid-20140822_120232.jpg

Usually I’m not a fan of wearing ‘bodycon’ dresses, but, the organza overlay makes it super cute and a bit classy.

The dress was designed by house of cards http://www.houseofcardsthelabel.com/ which is a pretty darn cool label.

Flower Power (Aka that time I stayed up way too late sewing)

I really need to stop watching project runway. It not only makes me want to sew all day, but it makes me want to leave my uni course and become a designer (which is one of the few jobs which is less financially secure than music. Side note: Why can’t I be good at stuff which won’t make me poor?)

Anyway, I stayed up obnoxiously late hand sewing these details…

wpid-img_20140820_093629.jpg

…onto this skirt.

wpid-20140820_212515.jpg

Unfortunately due to poor overcast lighting conditions on campus, the picture doesn’t do the skirt justice. Basically it’s the perfect fairy skirt. It’s a triple layer circle skirt with linen as the bottom layer, and polka dot tulle making up the top two layers. As i mention before I hand sewed rose and leaf detail around the edge of the skirt to add to the whimsy. Each rose was lovingly crafted by my hands, and sworn at multiple times by my brain (Because making lots of tiny roses sucks!)

wpid-20140820_133334.jpg

I matched the skirt with my green cape, and green Lady Petrova blouse, then tied in the red in the skirt with my shiny red shoes.

The gig was pretty fun to play, although, it was wayyyy too cold for an outdoor gig. Next time I think I’ll bring a warmer jacket.

I stayed in Newcastle last night with the bassist from my band. We had a gig in the evening, and Trains are kind of scary after dark. Anyway, my overnight bag was really heavy (Because I had to take my laptop and music stand up), so my back is kind of sore. But at least I look cute? 🙂

I’m starting to get back into the swing of things are far as uni life goes. I had my first flute lesson of the new Semester with my wonderful teacher Sally Walker. We played through my concerto together, which was really funny, but really helpful.

Whenever I’m feeling remotely blah, the colour I reach for to make my day better is green. It’s such a bright, cheery and underrated colour.

wpid-20140708_141024.jpg

I woke up with a bit of a headache, so green was the only way to go.

I’ve been favouring these shorts a lot lately for two reasons. 1) I love the print/colours (super easy to wear with all the things) 2) I feel more like me when I wear things I’ve made.

Lets have a real talk about sewing stuff. As much as I love fashion, I find fast fashion to move wayy to fast, and for it to be difficult to intergrate into my wardrobe because of my very specific tastes, both colour wise and silhouette wise. I’ve been experimenting a little bit more lately because of the myriad of fashion blogs I read (seriously, they’re all fabulous. My blog roll can be found here: https://theemeraldruby.wordpress.com/other-blogs-i-read/) As the saying goes, if you want something done right do it yourself. I also have a figure that most brands don’t cater for, which makes shopping for shorts a nightmare. They’re either too big or too small, or fit right on the legs, but gape at the waist.

As well as making clothes, I also make jewellery. The picture above is a closeup of the choker I’m wearing today.

I’ve never been one for playsuits. I thought they looked tacky and awkward, but for every rule there is an exception. For me, the exception is the “Evil Hearted you” playsuit, made by the brilliant Australian Designer Lady Petrova http://www.ladypetrova.com/

wpid-img_20140602_203423.jpg

This is the playsuit. I have literally never had anything that I didn’t make fit me quite as perfectly as this did.

I always feel like such a pirate when I wear this coat. When paired with the open blouse I wore today, I felt even more piratey.

The blouse and belt I wore today came from this brilliant vintage shop in Woy Woy called Shop 55. This place is very very bad for my Wallet. Wendy, the lady who runs the shop, has a brilliant sense of style and  I love going in to talk fashion with her (although unfortunately, it’s usually before work, so I can’t stay as long as I’d like to).

wpid-img_20140604_085730.jpg

Also totally bought a new phone case. I’d seen these floating around on the internet for a while, and finally decided to order one. It’s so thick/annoying, but, it’s cute, so it can stay.
